It is that time of year when everyone is trying to get into the clinic before the end of the year before the deductibles start all over again. That means we are all running around like chickens with our heads cut off. The flu shots are in full swing and you can't make it through a day without hearing about the fears of Ebola. The flu shot clinic opened this week and every day we have been giving between about 400 and 500 shots. Sometimes people are waiting up to an hour to get there shot which makes for a long day of poking people. It is good that the community is taking the initiative to protect themselves. This time of year is stressful with all the sickness going around and the volume of patients. The days seem long even though they are getting shorter.=) I took the kids in for their flu mists today and I feel so good I got it done.
Working in patient care is the best, most rewarding and sometimes selfless job. You spend your entire day listening to other peoples complaints and trying your best to provide the most sincere quality care humanly possible. It could be very easy to get hardened to the complaints and stories of people(as there are many) but isn't that the reason we work in healthcare in the first place. I am always amazed at the stories I hear from regular people every day and I still feel genuine compassion for each person I meet on a daily basis. Everyone has a story, everyone has some sort of silent battle they are battling and everyone is worth the time to lend a listening ear. Truly the way we treat others is the way we hope others will treat us. You never know where life will take you and it is important to treat each other with respect. I just hope I can help a struggling soul feel good for a moment by being nice, lending a listening ear or just sharing a smile. Honestly that can be the best medicine for a weary soul but it can burn you out once in a while too. Especially when you spend your entire day running around caring for patients and then go home to spend your evening caring for your children and trying to keep caught up on your house duties. Honestly there is not enough time in the day and not enough compensation for all the things you do.
This past weekend was fun. Took the kids to a Halloween event out by Carrie's house. Unfortunately Austin got sick and puked unexpectedly while we were there but it was fun before that happened. I was very embarrassed but every mom has been there and sometimes you can't predict puke moments. Carrie and I had some wine and shared some laughs. There is nothing like having a friend that after you part your stomach hurts from laughing so hard.
Last week Jason and I were able to get out on the boat together just the to of us. He caught a few fish and I enjoyed the boat ride and taking pictures.
Took a drive with my parents.
On an early morning run I found hundreds of little spider webs shining in the dew. It was so cool but all I had was my cell phone for a picture.
