Happy Halloween

Celebrate Eachother! (Leaf filter photos)

Jason only has this week and possibly next week left of his training out of town.  It will be nice to have it over and get back on a normal schedule again.  Get used to what the new normal will feel like as I am not sure what that will be yet.  Either way I will adjust and try to be content with whatever comes down the pike.  Here are some fun photos of Jason and the kids from last weekend.  I used a leaf and cut a whole in the middle.  It was super fun.

I heard a really great quote at work today ..."The only constant in healthcare is change."  That is so true for healthcare but so true for life in general.  Once you accept that change is inevitable and you can't stop it, things are easier to adapt to while accepting it rather than rebelling against it.  (even though the older you get- the - "it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks" thing makes more sense).  My rock solid is knowing that God accepts me for me and through it all I can count on him.  Some people might say that is just mind over matter and the easy way out.  Like if all else fails God still loves me but I beg to disagree.  My human spirit is a fighting one...it is always fighting to overcome and conquer all but my heart and soul know the truth that God is the one true conqueror and we can only conquer all through him.  It is much more refreshing not putting huge expectations on myself, my friends and family but instead being grounded in the love of God knowing my expectations will never be met all the time because they too are human.   Today I met a beautiful lady who just lost her husband 2 months ago.  She was sobbing and telling me about her struggle and those conversations really make you remember how short our life on earth here is.  It is so important to celebrate ourselves and to celebrate each other.

We have this amazing Nun who plays the harp at Gundersen as a volunteer.  She has played the harp for many years as a complimentary service for patients who would like to hear her play.  She came and spoke at one of our meetings in the Float Pool and her stories and presence was so uplifting and inspiring.  She is one of those people that the moment she speaks you love her and you just can't help but feel happy when she is around.  She has a book that she wrote about all the neat stories where people have been emotionally, spiritually and sometimes physically healed just by this precious woman's harp playing which is beautiful by the way.  She even sings too.  She flat out says to anyone who will lend an ear that she believes in the miracles of God and that whether we know it or not every day we have the power of God flowing through us to touch a soul that is struggling.  She asked us "Have you ever been in a situation where you say just the perfect thing without even trying?  She says with a firm conviction "That is God working through you without you even realizing it.  How true is that and how wonderful that she shares this openly at a hospital where so many people need a miracle.

She also shared a story about a jar of rice that I found very intriguing.  She explained how in a class of students they put a jar of rice and on one side of the jar they wrote hate while on the other side they wrote love.  Every time they walked by the side with hate on it they would say bad, hateful and negative things.  Every time they walked by the side of the jar with love they would say happy, blessed and nice things.  After a certain amount of days which I forget the specific amount the side with love was pure white and the other side turned black.  She says believe it or not we give off energy that effects things physically in the natural realm of life.  Our negative energy has a physical effect on things just as our positive energy does.  Whether this is a true story or not I like the idea and no doubt it is always better to reflect good energy.   She says "We need to celebrate ourselves.  We are amazing, beautiful and wonderful."  What a great message and neat woman.  God bless her!
