Decided to take a day trip with my boys along the Great River Road towards Fountain City. I was expecting all dead trees but there were still some beautifully colored spots along the way. We started by Going to Kinstone Megalithic Garden in Fountain City. I had to think of something new and make it sound exciting to entice Riley for a drive. He kept saying on the ride up "Mom I don't want to go hiking on a trail and I have already been there!" Austie was totally down with going the entire time. =) Though Riley was unenthusiastic about our day adventure he did enjoy it at times.
Then we stopped for lunch at the "Golden Frog" in Fountain City. It was the perfect, low key place to stop and have lunch without a lot of people around and there was even a football game on tv to watch.
Next destination was Merrick State Park. My intention was just to drive through. Austie wanted to get out and walk the entire time we drove through. Riley kept saying "Mom, are we going home yet." Then I realized how beautiful it was and had to stop for some photos. It was really muddy and the boys enjoyed that. Riley brought his three hot wheels cars with him and after about 15 minutes was upset he lost them somewhere in the mud. After some tears I spotted them and restored his happy heart.
Then we drove to Buena Vista Park lookout point. There were quite a few other people out enjoying the view even though it was pretty cloudy, gloomy and windy.
Next we went to the Creamery in Nelson and had homemade ice cream at a super cool place with really neat leaves growing all over it. After that we drove through Wildlife Refuge in Trempealeau. Then we stopped at Subway and finally returned home to have baths and unwind.
I feel so delighted to have fit all of this wonderful stuff into one day.
